American WWII Bomb Kills Solomon Islands Adventist
11 May 2021 | A Seventh-day Adventist in the Solomon Islands was killed on May 9 by a US bomb from World War II (WWII) that was accidentally detonated in the Lengakiki Heights, West Honiara area of the country.
Raziv Hilly, 29, was cooking food for a church fundraiser when heat from the fire detonated the bomb. He was rushed to National Referral Hospital but did not survive his injuries. Two other individuals were injured, one seriously.
According to Loop PNG referencing Solomon Star, Hilly was from Vella La Vella and Ranoggah in the Western Province. He was an aviation engineer and property manager, and a youth leader in his local church.
Many undetonated WWII bombs remain a threat in the Solomon Islands. According to Loop PNG, a WWII bomb killed two people last September.
