Ukraine and South Korea Create Partnership for Adventist Universities
10 January 2025 |
The Ukrainian Humanitarian Institute has taken steps towards developing international relations with Adventist educational institutions, particularly Sahmyook University in South Korea.
This particular partnership has been in the works for many years, with Andriy Shevchuk, the head of the educational complex, visiting in August 2023 to sign an official memorandum for the partnership. The collaboration would provide greater unity and broaden academic and financial opportunities for the institutions. Through an exchange program, they hope to enable South Korean students to study in Ukraine and facilitate opportunities for Ukrainian students at Sahmyook University. Sahmyook University has provided financial support for the modernization of Ukrainian Humanitarian Institutes’ technology. In light of remote learning, improved internet access, the latest software, and other tools are necessary, especially in an intercontinental learning environment.
The ongoing conflicts within Ukraine as well as current travel restrictions imposed by the South Korean embassy on its citizens visiting Ukraine have delayed their efforts, but not their motivation. With the benefit of mutual accreditation from the Adventist Accrediting Association, “The Ukrainian Humanitarian Institute plans to maintain contact with Sahmyook University and is working to establish educational programs, including Korean language courses,” as detailed in an article regarding the partnership. Despite setbacks, both institutions are hopeful for the collaboration and the opportunities it will provide.
