Texas Adventist, 43, Expecting Quadruplets
December 18, 2017: Ruth Mochire, a 43-year-old Adventist living in Southeast Texas, is expecting quadruplets. Mochire attends an Adventist church in Beaumont, Texas. She and her husband already have five children.
Mochire, who has lived in the United States for about a decade, found out she was pregnant after returning from a vacation with her family to her native Kenya.
“When I came back you have to do a medical checkup before you go back to work in the refinery, so when they did my blood test, my foreman comes and tells me like ‘Ruth you can’t go back, it shows that you are pregnant. And I was like, to be pregnant at this age, it’s so odd to be over 40 years of age and be pregnant and mid-40’s is like impossible.”
Local KBMT-TV reports that Mochire will be admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston on December 21. Tests will be carried out to ensure that the hearts and brains of her babies are fit for delivery. After birth, the babies will be monitored in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for one month.
Mochire’s spoke about how her faith has supported her through the pregnancy. “With God it’s possible and I believe when God gives you something and allows you to get in a certain situation, he already prepares a way. If you cling on to him, you will get out successful.”
A GoFundMe campaign titled “Ruth and Joshua. Blessed with Quads” has been set up by Mochire’s church community. As of publication, it has raised $13,575 of a $50,000 goal. The funds will go to help Mochire and her husband, who lost their home during Hurricane Harvey, with the financial realities of supporting a family of 11.
