Teacher at Adventist School in India Run Over by Bus
15 July 2018 | A teacher at an Adventist school in Tirumala, a town in the Chittoor district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, has died after being run over by a bus on Friday, July 13.
The driver of the private bus was taken into custody, according to The Hindu. Law enforcement revealed that the victim of the incident was 46-year-old Sheeba Rani. The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Rani, a Hindi teacher at the Adventist High School in Tirumala, was crossing the road when she was hit.
The Hindu reported that the bus had stopped to collect passengers and the driver, Sreekanth of Peyad, did not know that Rani was walking directly in front of the vehicle when he started driving away from the stop.
An attempt to save Rani’s life at a nearby hospital failed. The Hindu reports that “official sources” claim the driver started up the bus to prevent being overtaken by another bus.
Sreekanth was detained soon after the accident.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in India claims 1.5 million members.
