Benvenuto in Casa Mia!
On September 19, 2022, the Casa Mia Retirement Home in Forlì, Italy, will open a new operational headquarters near the city’s historic center. Fabian Nikolaus, director of the facility, told EUD News that the center will cater to sixteen people in residential mode and up to four people in day center mode. It will offer sociomedical assistance, catering and nutrition service, physiotherapy, psychology, animation, psychomotricity, social secretarial service, and transport, among other services.
Water Never Tasted So Good…
From NAD News: On Sabbath, September 3, 2022, Adventist Community Services (ACS) hosted a water distribution at a local Adventist school in Jackson, Mississippi, handing out about 15,000 bottles of water over the course of three hours. Jackson has suffered a severe clean water shortage after late August flooding created a chemical imbalance at the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant.
Remembering Important History
The Township of Willingboro, New Jersey, invited the Willingboro Seventh-day Adventist Church to take part in the town’s second annual Juneteenth Festival on June 18, 2022. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas were officially proclaimed free. It has since been observed annually across the United States as the date of emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
NAD News reports the Adventist group provided blood pressure screenings, bottles of water, fresh fruits/nutritious snacks, Food Bank of South Jersey COVID-19 masks, and ADRA coin banks, as well as health and spiritual literature like outreach book Black From the Past by Carl McRoy, NAD Literature Ministries director.
Calypso King of the World Gets Baptized
The St. Kitts and Nevis Observer reports that calypso performer Slinger Francisco, better known as The Mighty Sparrow, got baptized as an Adventist in New York City on September 3. The singer is originally from Trinidad and is known as “Calypso King of the World.”
Conscience & Justice Council Event
On Sept. 22-25, 2022, the annual Conscience & Justice Council conference will be held. Public affairs and religious liberty leaders, churches who have or want to start a public affairs and religious liberty ministry, and others with an interest in themes of justice and conscience are invited to attend.
