Comments of the Week Mar 3-9
“I like this EGW quote:
‘Live the life of faith day by day. Do not become anxious and distressed about the time of trouble, and thus have a time of trouble beforehand. Do not keep thinking, ‘I am afraid I shall not stand in the great testing day.’ You are to live for the present, for this day only. Tomorrow is not yours. Today you are to maintain the victory over self. Today you are to live a life of prayer. Today you are to fight the good fight of faith. Today you are to believe that God blesses you. And as you gain the victory over darkness and unbelief, you will meet the requirements of the Master, and will become a blessing to those around you.’

EDITORIAL: Like It or Not, We Can’t Avoid Politics
“When I was a young Adventist pastor I avoided talking about politics or the shenanigans of political leaders from the pulpit. I’ve had two major realizations since. One is that the machinations of Conference, Union, Division and General Conference are intensely political. The other is that to say nothing about injustice perpetrated by governments and their political leaders is in itself a huge political statement in addition to being a dereliction of a moral duty to oppose oppression and unfair treatment in keeping with the Old Testament prophetic voice and the voice of Jesus Himself who famously called Herod ‘that fox.’“
“‘If a politician has an opinion on it, we are criticized for mentioning it.’ Politicians have opinions about everything, and often believe they must turn their opinions into laws to be forced upon all citizens. Example: I remain bewildered (and admittedly frustrated) that some politicians and their supporters are obsessed with the gender identity and sexual behavior of others that compels them to enact laws designed to condemn and place unconstitutional restrictions on the lives of this targeted population, whose identity and behavior is no one else’s business.”

Tradition and the Biblical Text
“It seems to me that something passes over to being “traditional” when we’re not quite sure why we do it, but we want to keep doing it. We create, retroactively, reasons why we should keep doing it. That certainly applies to a lot of biblical interpretation.“

Adventist Luddites
“Thanks for your analogy! I have had the same concerns for some time. As our older generation and now mine age out, our church pews are becoming emptied and our schools smaller in attendance. Without being willing to seriously look at some of our beliefs, I think the North America Division will head into a downward spiral.”

Adventist Pastor Taken Into Custody over Alleged Sexual Imposition
“The charges are kidnapping, two counts of gross sexual imposition, and child endangering.“

Aunty, should I buy guns and go “off the grid” to prepare for the time of trouble?
