Adventist Pastor Shot Dead in Ghana
May 4, 2017: An Adventist pastor was shot dead by robbers in the Afigya Kwabre district of the country.
The Ghanaian Times reported that Pastor James Agyei, 53, was on official church business when he was shot on Saturday afternoon, April 29.
Agyei pastored Effiduase Seventh-day Adventist Church, and also served as Assistant Headmaster for Administration at Okomfo Anokye Senior High School, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The robbers attempted to stop the pastor who was traveling between the Abuaboja and Abubenso communities in Afigya Kwabre.
Agyei tried to escape in his white Mercedes Benz when he realized that he was about to be robbed.
The attempted escape resulted in the robbers firing at the pastor at close range, killing him.
Before fleeing the scene of the crime, the robbers stole two mobile phones and an undetermined amount of cash.
Police are investigating the attack.
The US Department of States states that violent crime in Ghana is on the rise. Vehicle theft is a major source of crime. Armed banditry is a serious problem on rural roads in the country.
