Video Warns of “Pastor” Speaking in Churches, Asking for Personal “Loans”

{Addendum: This note was received from Billy Mirander’s wife, Abigail Foster: “I would like to clarify that I have been separated from Billy Mirander for over four years, with no contact whatsoever, due to a court-ordered protection. I ask that a statement be released to correct this misrepresentation, confirming that I have never been involved in any activities related to scamming or other fraudulent behavior.” Abigail’s picture with Billy was also removed.}
In a video dated January 1, an Adventist woman named Melody Tapia tells about a visiting speaker to churches in the United States named Billy Mirander. He spoke on Sabbath morning in her congregation, giving a moving testimony of his
gang life back in Jamaica, and that once he learned about Christ he gave his life to him and he chose to follow the ministry path and become a pastor, so he ended up moving here to the states.… He came to our church to give his testimony of how much his life had changed.
Afterwards, as Melody gave him a ride to the airport, he told her that his family
had been living in their car for the past few weeks or months or two months, I think he mentioned. And so because he didn’t have money and because he had had an open heart surgery the previous month or two months before, that’s why he had no money to pay for [a college loan repayment], so now he was in the position where if he didn’t pay for the loan he would be deported and his ministry will end.
Melody “loaned” him several thousand dollars, and later she learned that other people had, as well. She has tracked down about $20,000 dollars that he was given by church members in Massachusetts. He has spoken in churches elsewhere, as well. He hasn’t, to Melody’s knowledge, paid back the “loans” he’s received.
Billy Mirander has written a book about his gang life and conversion, and claims he’s appeared on 3ABN—both of which he uses as an entry to get into pulpits.
