Tragic Shooting Ends Life of Adventist in Barbados
July 23, 2017: The Adventist community in Barbados is mourning the death of 58-year-old Colleen Beresdean Payne, an Adventist Church member who was shot to death on Monday, July 17.
The country’s Nation News site reported that she was robbed and then shot by two men at about 9 p.m.
Payne was reportedly attacked while using a Royal Bank of Canada ATM in the St. Michael parish of Barbados.
She died in the country’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital from her injuries.
Payne was an active lay leader within the Adventist community in Barbados and a member of the Black Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church.
According to television station CBC News Barbados, she was Pathfinder Director and Childrens’ Ministries leader at her church.
She was an educator by profession and worked at a children’s home.
Her sister described Payne as “an extremely active member of the community who was quiet but unassuming.”
