ADRA Mobilizes to Assist Victims of Deadly Earthquake in Turkey and Syria
More than 20,000 people were injured and at least 11,000 killed in Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake affecting regions of Turkey and Syria. ADRA has begun “collaborating with local governments and trusted partners” to provide aid such as “multipurpose cash assistance, essential supplies, food, and shelter.” Read full story at TED News.
Former NAD Vice-President and 3ABN President, Jim Gilley, Passes Away
On December 28, 2022, James William “Jim” Gilley passed away after a battle with Covid-19 pneumonia and Legionnaires’ disease. He was 82 years old. Gilley was best known for his work as vice-president at the North American Division and president at 3ABN. Read full story at NAD News.
Unprecedented Attendance at Pentecost 2023 Festival in Nigeria
On January 22, 2023, coordinators found themselves speaking to almost 80,000 people at Nigeria’s “Pentecost 2023 Baptism Festival.” Pentecost 2023 organizer, Azukoye Amadi, and local churches expected 1500-2000 baptisms, only to find themselves baptizing 10,000 attendees. Adventist Digital Creators Host Webinars on How to Talk to Post-Church Society
The Trans-European Division and Inter-European Divisions are hosting ten webinars throughout 2023 to teach Adventist digital creators how to communicate with “the mindset of secular post-church European society.” They will take place on the last Tuesday of the month, 6pm London time. AdventHealth Employee Orchestra Heals Isolation and Breaks Barriers
In an attempt to re-ignite community after the intense isolation of the pandemic, Richard Hickam, director of music and the arts for AdventHealth, formed the first all-employee orchestra at AdventHealth. The “rag-tag group” wears their work uniform while playing and includes lab techs, pharmacists, CEOs, nurses, HR directors, and more. The group brings together employees who wouldn’t normally interact and the group has even performed at Disney Springs and the Orlando Union Rescue Mission. Read full story at AdventHealth site.
