Maplewood Academy Staff Member Dies at North Star Camp
7 September 2022 | According to a press release from the Minnesota Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, a staff member of Maplewood Academy died unexpectedly while on a school trip to North Star Camp on Monday, September 5, 2022.
Authorities have released the name of the deceased staff member, Alan Garcia. He served as a receptionist and assistant to the Maplewood principal.
“Emergency services were called and all appropriate measures were taken. Maplewood Academy and camp staff are fully cooperating with local authorities to determine what caused the unexpected death. More information will be shared as it comes available,” said the Minnesota Conference press release. The conference owns and operates both the academy and the camp.
“The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said 30-year-old Alan Garcia was with a group of students at the North Star Camp when he went underwater at around 1:30 p.m. Monday,” said Bring Me the News.
“A student pulled Garcia from the water and first responders arrived and began CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital,” the news site added.
