Giant Mustache Promotes Men’s Health at Sydney Adventist Hospital
November 10, 2016: A huge 8-meter (26 ft.) mustache has been mounted to a wall of Sydney Adventist Hospital in celebration of the international Movember men’s health push.
The idea behind Movember is to encourage men to go and see their doctor when they suspect something, rather than ignoring medical problems.
The awareness work is organized internationally by the Movember Foundation, an international NGO aimed at raising awareness about prostate and other cancers that affect men.
The name comes from a combination of the words “mustache” and “November,” the month of the big drive for men’s health.
“Men often ignore symptoms until it’s too late,” said Sydney Adventist Hospital urologist Dr. Phillip Katelaristo, in the area’s North Shore Times newspaper. “Men are often reticent to talk about their health and think it’s not a macho subject.
“In fact sharing their experiences may well lead to screening, testing and treatment that will save or improve their lives and Movember is a great way to encourage men to be proactive about their health.”
