Florida Hospital Carrollwood Gifted $5 Million
March 13, 2017: Indian-American entrepreneur Dr. Kiran Patel and his wife Dr. Pallavi Patel have made a $5 million donation to Florida Hospital Carrollwood.
The gift is a sizable portion of the $21 million the Tampa-area hospital needs to build a new Catherization Lab and expand its Emergency Department.
Kiran Patel owns medical insurance firms and served as a cardiologist earlier in his career. His wife Dr. Pallavi Patel specialized in Pediatrics.
Business news site PRWeb reported on March 10 that Kiran Patel built the WellCare Management Group (a business offering managed care solutions) and sold it in 2002 to a private equity group.
The capital from the sale has powered the philanthropic efforts of the Patels. As residents of Carrollwood they have a special interest in that community.
A July 2017 opening is planned for the Cath Lab. Later in the year the hospital will hold its groundbreaking on the “Dr. Kiran C. Patel” Emergency Department expansion.
Florida Hospital Carrollwood is a 120-bed hospital in the Tampa, Florida area. It is a member of the West Florida Division of Florida Hospital, which in turn is owned by parent company Adventist Health System.
