“Escrito Está” Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary
18 June 2024 |
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Escrito Está, the prominent Spanish-language ministry of It Is Written, which has grown to become the most widely aired Spanish-language television program in Adventism. Beginning as a local initiative to reach the Latino population in North America, it has flourished into a global evangelistic powerhouse.
Originally hosted by Dr. Milton Peverini in 1994, Escrito Está made significant strides in media evangelism, starting with its initial broadcasts on U.S. cable channels in 1995. By the fall of 1996, the program had made its debut in Chile, receiving an overwhelming response and setting the stage for expansion across Latin America.
Today, Escrito Está enjoys a unique position, being the sole religious program aired by a major network in parts of South America. The ministry’s impact is further evidenced by its expansion to twice-weekly broadcasts in Central America, and its growth has prompted the hire of additional staff to manage the surge in demand.
Robert Costa, the current speaker/director (as of 2006), emphasized the ministry’s commitment to its mission: “Media has no limits, and the gospel has no barriers. We have viewers from 142 countries, affirming that the gospel will reach all nations, languages, and people, as promised in the Bible.”
Beyond its flagship TV program, Escrito Está also produces two additional programs and hosts approximately 15 annual evangelism campaigns worldwide. These events have led to thousands of baptisms each year. Pastor Costa’s involvement extends to participating in camp meetings, rallies, and training sessions for church leaders and members, often broadcasting these gatherings live to reach broader audiences.
The global influence of Escrito Está is not confined to media alone. The ministry has actively participated in humanitarian efforts, such as donating a boat in 2008 for evangelizing the Uros people on Lake Titicaca, Peru, and providing bicycles, motorcycles, water filters, and solar-powered radios to assist and empower local communities in remote areas.
This year, in addition to producing 72 half-hour programs and 365 daily devotionals, Costa will lead evangelistic efforts across multiple countries, including Colombia, Spain, Bolivia, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and several states in the United States.
Reflecting on the ministry’s journey for NAD News, Costa shared, “The 30th anniversary is a special occasion when we remember that God has led us so far. Thirty years is a real miracle, but the greatest of miracles are those hearts that are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
