Dr. Willie Hucks Hired as Andrews University’s Assistant to the President for Mission & Culture
6 March 2024 |
After the July 2023 departure of Andrews University’s Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion, Michael Nixon, Andrews University shifted the VP job description to a position titled: Assistant to the President for University Mission and Culture. The new position garnered controversy last fall, with “overwhelming support for its continuation in the current form of a Vice Presidential role” and questions about whether the shift would “cripple the diversity and inclusion efforts of the institution.”
This week, an email went out to Andrews faculty and staff announcing that the Assistant to the President for University Mission and Culture position has now been filled by current Seminary professor Dr. Willie Hucks. Hucks has worked as associate professor in the seminary, and chair of the Department of Practical & Applied Theology. He has also chaired the Seminary Ethnicity, Race, and Social Justice Committee for eight years.
Previous to Andrews, he worked as associate editor of Ministry magazine and associate ministerial secretary of the General Conference. He has also served as faculty at Southwestern Adventist University and as pastor in the Southwest Region Conference.
The email reads that Hucks “accepted the invitation to serve as the assistant to the president for Mission & Culture. In that capacity, he will also carry forward the role of diversity officer for the University.”
