“I feel the outrage. And maybe worse, I feel shame that our church has drawn us away from the path of righteousness instead of proclaiming love, justice, and mercy.” –-Patti Purdy Hansen Tompkins on Christian Outrage

EDITORIAL: Why I Don’t Want to Be an Ex-Adventist
“I prefer to use the term I came up with. ‘Recovering SDA’ I think it fits like once an alcoholic ……. ”
–Andy Trubey
“Loren, you used one word. Grieving. That precludes the idea that you just forget what is behind and go and just live positively as if the past is no big deal. The stages of grieving, denial, sadness, anger, etc., need to be processed until reaching acceptance. That can take a while.
Fairies, Bunnies, and a Jolly Fat Man
“What an excellent and important discussion! I really don’t understand the strange obsession against fiction and ‘talking animals’ and all of the nonsense—as though people can’t understand that things that aren’t real can still teach us! Thank you for bringing this to AT!“
–Loren Seibold
“I love the Narnia Chronicles and they have been a spiritual influence and inspiration to me too. Very dear.
“Thank you. Was unaware of all the ties to Christian Nationalism. I am really concerned to see so many in our church accepting, and preaching, Christian Nationalism (CN). It’s so obviously counter to our historical beliefs, and yet the most ardent on that most ardently accept CN as well. I’m at a loss as to how to reach them.”
–Glen Milam
“I just find it interesting that the article ends with a reference to The Great Controversy, when Christian nationalism is everything that book warned us about—both prophetically and in its false picture of God.”
-Tom Paul Wheeler
Our Outrage as Christians Is a Window Into Who We Are
“I feel the outrage. And maybe worse, I feel shame that our church has drawn us away from the path of righteousness instead of proclaiming love, justice, and mercy.”
–Patti Purdy Hansen Tompkins
“There will always be judgment against people by religious people as long as they think that our value to God rests on our compliance rather than his parenthood.”
-Connie French
Aunty, why is it expected that church employees have to work on Sabbath?
“There is a new hire at my husband’s work trying to get a church note for Saturdays off…. but they work at a nuclear power plant. you cannot just shut down an entire nuclear plant one day a week.

–Helen Elizabeth
“I think of any emergency–and those people (to me) can work because they are “doing good.” If my water pipes burst Sabbath afternoon, I am calling a plumber on Sabbath afternoon. And I will be thankful and praise God one was working on the 7th day.”
-Joseph Wamack
