Clear Lake City Council Approves Sale of Property to Adventist Health
19 December 2023 |
Lake County News recently reported that the Clear Lake City Council in California has unanimously agreed to sell a parcel of land at the former Pearce Field airport to Adventist Health Clear Lake. This decision paves the way for a $50 million medical facility expected to significantly boost the city’s economy and health outcomes.
City Manager Alan Flora emphasized the long-awaited nature of this agreement, which involves selling three acres of land for just $1. In exchange, Adventist Health commits to investing millions in building a 38,000-square-foot rural health clinic. Scheduled to open in 2026, the clinic is projected to attract up to 165,000 patient visits annually, becoming a cornerstone of a major new commercial development in the area.
The planned facility, directly across Highway 53 from Adventist Health’s main hospital, will offer a variety of medical services, including family medicine, pediatrics, and other specialties. The city reserves an additional 10 acres for potential future expansion by Adventist Health, which may include an imaging center or new hospital.
The agreement marks a milestone in the five-year-long discussions between the city and Adventist Health. The partnership is expected to improve health statistics in Clear Lake, generate jobs, and spur economic growth. Adventist Health, the city’s largest employer, is seen as a crucial contributor to local health and well-being.
Environmental reviews and infrastructure provisions are part of the city’s commitment to this project. A full Environmental Impact Report (EIR) is slated to start in the new year, covering not just the medical facility but the entire 40-acre city-owned property.
The council’s approval, followed by applause, represents a significant step towards transforming the old airport site into a hub for growth and health services. This development, along with the planned Fairfield Inn by Marriott and other retail attractions, is poised to reshape Clear Lake’s economic and health landscape.
