Ben Carson Considers Housing And Urban Development Secretary Post
November 24, 2016: Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is being considered for the position of Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary.
President-Elect Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he was “seriously considering” Carson for the HUD post, adding that “he’s a greatly talented person who loves people!”
The Adventist former GOP presidential candidate had previously said that he was not interested in a cabinet-level job, but now has changed his mind and is giving serious consideration to the position.
In a November 23 Facebook post, Carson said, “After serious discussions with the Trump transition team, I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone. We have much work to do in strengthening every aspect of our nation and ensuring that both our physical infrastructure and our spiritual infrastructure is solid. An announcement is forthcoming about my role in helping to make America great again.”
In a November 22 interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News, Carson said, “I grew up in the inner city and have spent a lot of time there, and have dealt with a lot of patients from that area.”
Carson said that if given the chance to head the department he would prioritize removing “corruption and graft,” as well as making good on promises made to residents.
“We cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities,” he said.
