Aunt Sevvy, why does the same GC president continue for so many years?
10 March 2025 |
Dear Aunt Sevvy,
If Ted Wilson admires Ellen White so much, why doesn’t he follow her counsel?
“I have been shown that ministers should not be retained in the same district year after year, nor should the same man long preside over a conference. A change of gifts is for the good of our conferences and churches.” Gospel Workers, p.420.
“And the same men should not be held year after year as advisors in committees or boards. Changes must be made, for these men come to think themselves a necessity; that the work will not prosper without their wisdom.” Principles of Christian Leadership, p.160.
If governments can limit terms of service, why can’t the church?
Signed, Time for Change
Dear Time:
You have said it. Power is an addiction, and those in its thrall justify their addiction by believing (quite sincerely, Aunty is sure) that they are indispensable. Sometimes it takes an intervention to break the addiction.
Let us hope the General Conference (GC) Nominating Committee will intervene—though Aunty believes it isn’t unlikely they would only replace one power addict with another.
