We asked each of the speakers for the October 4-6, Portland, Oregon-based AT1 gathering to answer the question, “How Does Christ Challenge Culture?” We gave them 80 words or less for their answers.
This week we are featuring the answer we received from Michaela Lawrence Jeffery who pastors the Athens, Georgia, Seventh-day Adventist church:
Our current culture is one of amazing connections to seemingly anyone. However, we often lack depth within those connections which means we’re often lonely. Christ challenges our culture by modeling purposeful time with crowds, with a group, with a select few, and one-on-one with the Father. Those one-on-one periods are lengthy. Five-minute daily devotional options seem to only make sense in our culture if we’re making time for regular extended time.
