Andrews University Welcomes New President and New Pastor
5 July 2023 |
Andrews University held the official commencement for two new campus leaders on July 1, 2023, welcoming incoming president John Wesley Taylor V and his wife, Miriam, along with incoming senior pastor Shane Anderson and his wife, Darlene.
In the Andrews Agenda, university chaplain José Bourget announced their arrival:
First, I want to welcome our new president, John Wesley Taylor V, and his wife, Miriam. I know that you will be blessed and encouraged by his leadership, as I have been as I’ve gotten to know both of them and as they now immerse themselves in the fabric of Andrews University life…. We will also welcome a new lead pastor for the first time in 40 years, Shane Anderson, to our University church—Pioneer Memorial Church (PMC).
Elder Jim Micheff, president of the Michigan Conference, presided over the ceremony on Sabbath morning. Instead of multiple services, PMC held one integrated service for the occasion, preceded by a special breakfast.
In previous articles, both leaders have shared their vision of leadership as they enter their new positions at Andrews. Pastor Anderson said, “I crave seeing the church fully embrace its liberating prophetic message and its unique mission of preparing the world for Christ’s return,” in a PMC article announcing him as the new senior pastor.
In his biography on the Andrews website, President Taylor has shared that, “By God’s grace, I endeavor to lead with empathy and compassion, with a clear sense of purpose and with integrity.”
The university has announced “a year of intentional, focused prayer” for both leaders, creating a prayer calendar link for President Taylor’s family and for Pastor Anderson’s family as they settle into their new positions.
