21 October 2021 | Kempsey Adventist School (KAS), a co-educational Seventh-day Adventist school in New South Wales, Australia, went into immediate lockdown after it was discovered that members of its school community had tested positive for COVID-19, according to the news site The Macleay Argus.
“We have been advised that two members of the school community have tested positive to COVID-19,” the school issued in a statement to parents on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021. “As a result, KAS will be closed effective immediately to allow for a deep clean of the site.”
All staff and students will now be required to self-isolate until they receive further notice. The school will remained closed until Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, when the situation will be reviewed.
The school was recently in the news when teachers from the school allegedly sought fraudulent vaccine exemptions from a doctor who had recently come out of retirement. The teachers are accused of using the certificates to avoid mandatory double vaccinations.
The doctor, John Evans, 84, reportedly had issued 400 exemptions, with another 300 pending.
A spokesperson for the Kempsey Adventist School told Daily Mail Australia they will be “fully compliant” with the vaccination mandates for schools in NSW.
“Seventh-day Adventist Schools in New South Wales (NSW) had already established a Medical Contraindication Certificate Review Panel prior to the emergence of this particular matter to help ensure compliance,” the spokesperson said. “Kempsey Adventist School wholeheartedly supports the work of this review panel as a means to ensuring all appropriate steps are being taken in caring for our community.”
A statement from the Seventh-day Adventist church said, “All Adventist schools in [New South Wales, Australia] will be fully compliant with the Public Health Orders as required on Nov. 8, 2021.”
The statement also said the church was encouraging members to be vaccinated.
