180 Go Bald for Charity at Malaysian Adventist Hospital
July 18, 2017: On July 16, 180 volunteers had their heads shaved bald at Penang Adventist Hospital in Penang, Malaysia.
The head shaving event was called the Go Bald, Go The Distance – Charity Head-shaving & Food Carnival 2017.
Proceeds from the event went to benefit the Dr J. Earl Gardner Fund for needy patients of chronic ailments.
The fund is named in honor of Dr. Gardner and his wife Dr. Ethel-Swing Gardner who opened the first Adventist clinic in what was then called Malaya, in 1924. The Mission Clinic they opened was situated in Penang.
The charity event drew participants of both genders from all levels of society in Penang.
Malaysia’s The Star Online newsource reported that even government representatives shaved their heads.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and Yap Soo, an assemblyman representing the Pulau Tikus suburb of Penang’s capital, George Town, joined in the head-shaving event.
Penang Adventist Hospital has over 200 beds. It has been in operation since 1924. It is affiliated with Loma Linda Medical Center and Florida Hospital.
