Ghanaian Adventist Church Donates to Government COVID-19 Fund
27 April 2020 | The Adventist Church in Ghana has donated Ghs100,000 (approx USD17,240) to the country’s National COVID-19 Trust Fund.
The gift was delivered earlier today by the President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference, Pastor Thomas Techie Ocran.
According to News Ghana, the Adventist leader framed the gift as the first in a series of donations to the fund.
Ocran commended the government on its efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus in the country and said the Adventist denomination was praying for Ghana.
Chairperson of the Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akufo, thanked the denomination, and encouraged Ghanaians to join the church in its 100 Days of Prayer program in which Adventists pray for a specific theme for 100 assigned days.
News Ghana reported that the following were also present at the occasion of the donation: Pastor Lawrence Andrews Ewoo of Encounter with Truth, Dr Williams Kpakpo Brown of ADRA Ghana, Nii Ayite Hammond of Hope TV and Dr Solace Asafo, Communication Director, Southern Ghana Union.
According to the denomination’s Office of Archives, Statistics and Research, there were 170,443 Adventists and 935 churches in the Southern Ghana Union Conference as of June 30, 2019.
