Five Adventist Camps Make Newsweek List

Newsweek magazine compiled a list of the 500 best summer camps in the nation out of a list of more than 12,000 options. The data was compiled from “social media reviews and a comprehensive survey of 15,000 parents,” according to the Newsweek article.
Newsweek reminded parents that summer camp is an “iconic American tradition” and aimed to provide some help to parents who may feel daunted by the task of researching camp options for their kids. Of the list provided, two-thirds were non-profit camps and one-third included for-profit camps. Of them, 483 had ACA accreditation.
According to the Adventist Review (AR), five Adventist-managed summer camps made the list this year, including MiVoden Camp & Retreat Center in Hayden, Idaho; Camp Akita in Gilson, Illinois; and Camp Au Sable in Grayling, Michigan. It also lists Lone Star Camp in Athens, Texas, and Sunset Lake Camp in Wilkeson, Washington. The Adventist Review article also includes descriptions of each camp and unique experiences that they provide.
“We hope this list serves as a supplemental resource as you scout out suitable summer camps for your family,” wrote Newsweek‘s Global Editor-in-Chief, Nancy Cooper. “As with most things, there is no one-size-fits-all option for activities for your children, so please keep in mind that our list of camps speaks to a diverse audience of camp-goers.”
