Facebook Group Hopes to Share The Great Controversy at Presidential Inauguration.

A Facebook group entitled GC2DC has shared a video with their intentions for “an evangelistic endeavor at the presidential inauguration on January 20.” They hope to see “hundreds of thousands” of Adventists at the US Capitol to pass out Ellen G. White’s The Great Controversy to the public gathered to watch Donald Trump’s inauguration.
GC2DC, which identifies as a religious organization, does not seem to be under the official banner of the Seventh-day Adventist General Conference (GC) according to the Facebook page. Though there is minimal information about the organization, the grassroots effort focuses on sharing the Adventist message, noting the urgency of sharing White’s work through the lens of end-times.
As quoted from the video, “This is the book which above all others that we need to get out. The world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis; this book is needed now more than ever before. Shall we sit with folded hands and do nothing in this crisis? Not the government, but God is the sole judge of human faith.”
In addition to their end-times viewpoint, the evangelistic push is fueled by fear the religious freedoms of Seventh-day Adventists are at risk. GC2DC is asking for funding, through a GoFundMe link, and volunteers to join them in their efforts to share The Great Controversy.
According to the comments under the video, some support the movement, while others have seen it as, as one commenter stated, “Truth that Trump is the man.” Other commenters have reacted negatively, accusing the video of endorsing the intersection of church and state, while supporters argue the push is to ensure the government doesn’t interfere with church governance.
Though little is known about the group, many are wary of the choice to share The Great Controversy, rather than other evangelistic literature from Ellen G. White, criticizing their use of doomsday evangelism as a fear tactic rather than introducing the gospel.
