Erton Köhler Voted General Conference Executive Secretary
14 April 2021 | Current South American Division President Erton Köhler has been voted to the position of General Conference Executive Secretary at the General Conference Spring Meeting. The vote passed 197 to 16.
Köhler is replacing G.T. Ng as secretary effective immediately.
According to an Adventist News Network (ANN) story announcing his role, Köhler completed his bachelor’s degree in theology in 1989 at Brazil Adventist University (Adventist Institute of Education at the time). He initially served as a district pastor for the Sao Paulo Conference.
Starting in 1994, Köhler served in youth ministry directorship roles for the Rio Grande do Sul Conference, Northwest Brazil Union Mission, and South American Division and was briefly Executive Secretary for Rio Grande do Sul.
In 2007, Köhler was the youngest person ever to be elected as division president when he became the top denomination official in the South American Division (SAD) in his late 30s.
During his time as SAD president, Köhler has overseen large membership growth in the region as well the expansion of denominational institutions and media.
Köhler has a Master of Theology degree from BAU and a Doctor of Theology degree from Peruvian Adventist University.
