Dr. John Peckham Named Finalist for Christianity Today’s 2024 Book Awards
27 January 2025 |
John Peckham, research professor of theology and Christian philosophy at Andrews University, is a finalist for the 2024 Christianity Today Book Awards. The book Why We Pray: Understanding Prayer in the Context of Cosmic Conflict was written to address the nature of prayer and its impact on our relationship with God using accessible language.
Peckham has incorporated aspects from his other acclaimed books, Theodicy of Love: Cosmic Conflict and the Problem of Evil and Divine Attributes: Knowing the Covenantal God of Scripture. Inspired by conversations with his students and his own questions regarding the complex and nuanced curiosity regarding prayer and how to communicate with God, Peckham started with the concept of petitionary prayer and how it influences our understanding of God and his providence.
According to a press release by Andrews University,
“When the Christianity Today Book Awards were announced, Peckham was surprised. ‘I found out the day that they released it on their website,’ he shares. ‘It’s a great honor and a privilege. The Christianity Today Book Awards are among the most, if not the most, prestigious book awards that one could be awarded in the area of theology. So the fact that they named my book as a finalist for academic theology book of the year was just very humbling and very much appreciated and very encouraging.’”
Peckham is slated to release his next book in 2026 through Baker Academic, where he explores the nature of Jesus as the high priest in the context of the cosmic conflict.
