Berrien Village Church Requests Special Constituency Meeting with MCSDA
12 March 2025 |
In a letter made public yesterday, the Berrien Springs Village Church has asked for a special constituency meeting in the Michigan Conference to discuss the dismissal of its pastor, Ron Kelly.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the board of the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church hereby formally requests the Executive Committee of the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists [MCSDA] to call a special constituency meeting to be held in person at the earliest possible date, but no later than 70 days within meeting the constitutional requirements.…”
The letter comes from the Berrien Village Church board, and suggests an agenda that starts with prayer and includes a presentation of the congregation’s complaints, a hearing of the conference’s viewpoint, and discussion.
The final suggested agenda item is “a vote on the possible removal, replacement, and/or reinstatement of Executive Officers, Executive Committee members, and/or pastors.”
Congregational leaders have maintained that the firing wasn’t handled in a biblical manner, and that Jim Micheff and his team overstepped their authority in dismissing Ron Kelly. Conference leaders have defended their actions.

Conference bylaws say that 30% of Michigan Conference congregations have to join the request before the conference officers are obligated to call a constituency meeting.
