Aunt Sevvy, can I let my landlord fix my apartment on Sabbath?

Dear Aunt Sevvy,
My landlord is only available on Saturdays to make repairs on the apartment that I rent. Does this go against Sabbath observance?
Signed, No Shower Right Now
Dear No Shower,
Is your landlord a Sabbath observer who is having to break the Sabbath to fix your apartment? Or is he or she insisting on coming when you’re having a Bible study there? If neither of those, then Aunty isn’t sure what the problem is. It may be a situation where the landlord works elsewhere, and there is no other choice but to do repairs on a day off.
As long as your landlord doesn’t share your conviction about Sabbath work, then he or she should be able to keep their property maintained at their convenience.
As for you, the Sabbath-keeper: think of this like the ox that fell in the ditch and needs to be pulled out, even if it is Sabbath. Ask the landlord to come to fix the shower while you’re away at church, so you don’t even have to hear or see the repairs being made.
