AT1 Speaker Kendra Haloviak Valentine Answers the Question: How Does Christ Challenge Today’s Culture?
We asked each of the speakers for this year’s Portland, Oregon-based October 4-6 AT1 gathering to answer the question, “How Does Christ Challenge Today’s Culture?” We gave them an 80-word limit for their replies.
This week we’ll feature the answer we got from Kendra Haloviak Valentine, professor of New Testament Studies at La Sierra University’s HMS Richards Divinity School. The title of Kendra’s AT1 presentation is “Afraid? No Faith?” She will base her presentation on Mark 4:40. Here are her thoughts on Christ challenging culture:
In our world today there is much to make us uneasy. The media and tribal politics make money and gain power by perpetuating fear. In this context, what does it mean that Jesus asks the disciples: “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” How might contemporary followers of Jesus challenge culture by refusing to be afraid?
