Adventist TV Ministry Manager Elected President of Media Professional Group
From ANN, May 5, 2015: Casey Tom, manager of Faith for Today and Jesus 101 Biblical Institute television ministries, has been elected by her peers as the president of a major professional organization for Christian media specialists. The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) was started in 1929 as an association of professionals in print and electronic media, marketing and public relations from all denominations.
RCC convenes a national convention each year with noted speakers and challenging workshops. At the convention awards are given for the most outstanding work by communication professionals in religious organizations and for religious topics in the secular media. Adventists media professionals have long attended these meetings and some of the best known Adventist communicators have been honored over the years.
Probably best known for producing the handbook for religion communicators, Speaking Faith, now in the seventh edition, RCC also supports its members through a newsletter and has local chapters in a number of cities across the United States and Canada. It is the oldest professional group specifically for public relations and media specialists in religious organizations.
Tom was elected to the board of RCC in 2012 to replace Linda Walters who had worked for the Adventist Media Center for many years. “Her election shows the kind of respect that Adventist media ministries have among professionals from all denominations,” an staff member at another Adventist media ministry told Adventist Today.
The Adventist News Network (ANN) is the official news service of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination.
