Adventist Church in PNG Receives K1 Million at 100-Year Anniversary
December 30, 2024 |
On December 26, Prime Minister James Marape offered a government donation of K1 million to support the Seventh-day Adventist Mission in Bougainville. The donation was part of the community’s two-week celebration for the church’s 100 years in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB), New Guinea Islands, and neighboring Solomon Islands to Rumba, Kieta. This milestone event, themed “Gospel Flame,” brought over 6,000 participants and ran from December 18 to December 31.
After two weeks of programs, Prime Minister Marape flew in to officiate the program’s closing ceremony at the church. He celebrated the congregation’s impact on the community for a century, citing their work in outreach, sermon series, and other activities. Most of all, the leader honored the church’s work in helping communities heal after the Bougainville Crisis, also known as the Bougainville Civil War, devastated the region from 1988 to 1998. Their legacy has had positive ripple effects within Papua New Guinea (PNG) for over a century.
To continue said legacy, the prime minister encouraged young people to stay in the church and find ways to contribute to the community, being the hands and feet of Christ in new ways. The K1 million was donated as a government donation to allow the Seventh-day Adventist Mission in Bougainville to continue its good work. This donation was given in good faith, acknowledging that when the churches invest in the community, the community will invest in their churches.
