Adventist Cabinet Minister in Kenya is Acting Interior Chief
By Tysan, July 17, 2017: Fred Matiangi has been appointed the acting cabinet secretary for the interior in Kenya. Matiangi is an Adventist.
The appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta came after Joseph Nkaissery died suddenly at Karen Hospital while undergoing a check-up. Kenyatta said, “The position of Interior ministry cannot fall vacant. It is too important.”
Kenyatta also announced that he is chairing a meeting of the national security chiefs as the country prepares for a general election. The country has had considerable violence and civil unrest in previous elections as well as problems with terrorists in some areas.
Soon after his appointment, Matiangi made a major internal security decision, announcing a curfew in areas in the Coast and Northeastern sections of the country. This followed a terrorist incident in which nine people were killed in Lamu.
Matiangi has been serving as Education Minister. It is unclear if or how he would manage the workload involved in both cabinet positions. This is a delicate time in Kenya.
