ADRA Mongolia Promotes Self-Sustaining Agriculture Practices
10 September 2024 |
ADRA Hong Kong has expressed support for ADRA Mongolia’s new Climate Adapted Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Project (CANSAP) project. Smallholder farmers in Bayan-Ulgii province have endured severe weather, depleting crop health, shortening growing seasons, and limiting market access, placing their livelihood and community health in a precarious position.
CANSAP is a three-year project designed to utilize sustainable farming to combat weather conditions, improve farmers’ market access, and improve the health of 225 households across the Bayan-Ulgii regions. Introducing sustainable farming techniques, as well as sustainable tools such as passive solar greenhouses, will remedy many of the issues facing residents, thus increasing the productivity and the profitability of their crops, leading to economic and agricultural increase.
ADRA Mongolia is no stranger to these types of projects. Since 2011, they have endeavored to offer greater food security through the adoption of self-sustaining practices which will outlive ADRA’s immediate support. This self-sustaining model allows the communities within Mongolia to flourish by their own merit, implementing tools aligning with their culture, and local ecology guaranteeing a better environmental and economic footprint. CANSAP is one in a long line of projects that have helped partner with residents to combat environmental challenges such as poor soil quality and unpredictable weather.
This long-term, holistic approach will hopefully be adopted in other regions, acting as the catalyst to greater change which will stabilize rural communities. ADRA Hong Kong is happy to take part in the project, seeing the positive impact that’s created a ripple effect such as better hygiene, better nutrition, economic stability, and climate-conscious agricultural methods which will allow farmers in Bayan-Ulgii province greater independence. Regional ADRA leaders shared with Adventist Review. “We are confident that CANSAP will make a significant and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable families in Bayan-Ulgii province, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for generations to come.”
