35 Adventist Youth Injured In Malawi Traffic Accident
April 12, 2017: A vehicle transporting Adventist youth in Malawi overturned around noon local time on April 10 injuring at least 35 of the young passengers.
The Malawi News Agency reports that the young people were traveling from a youth retreat and were in the southern town of Zomba when the accident occured.
Initial reports suggests that driver Geoffrey Sande, aged 25, lost control of the Toyota Dyna truck due to brake failure. The vehicle plunged into a drain.
Many of the passenger injuries were sustained by youth attempting to jump from the vehicle before it overturned.
Five were seriously injured while the remainder sustained less serious injuries.
All of the Adventist youth hurt in the accident were taken to Zomba Central Hospital for treatment.
