GC Statement on Non-Biblical Human Sexuality Lifestyles
14 June 2023 |
The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (GC) has released a statement re-affirming its stance on heterosexual sexuality as the only Biblically appropriate option. According to the article in Adventist News Network, the statement was released in response to the fact that,
“In recent weeks, some local individuals or sometimes local church organizations in their local settings have sought to provide support for those living alternative human sexuality lifestyles that are inconsistent with our biblical understanding of this issue and published voted statements of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.”
The statement referenced certain local church events that had been announced on social media (most likely for Pride Month), creating “confusion and concern” among church members, and that they’ve been asking for a “clear yet kind” position from church leaders at various levels, hence the release of the statement.
It made clear that GC leadership “affirms the voted statements on human sexuality, homosexuality, and transgenderism published by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and does not support, endorse, or condone activities that seek to promote human sexuality behaviors not in accordance with God’s Word.” It stated that these conclusions have come from study of the Biblical scriptures and the Spirit of Prophecy.
