“When I think of the millions of Christians who worship on Sunday – wonderfully loving and caring people, I tend to think of that side of them, rather than the day on which they worship.” –Joyce Elliott on Sunday Laws: The Great Adventist Obsession

Engaging Contemporary Thinkers: The Elephant and Its Rider
“Having read all three parts of this series, I find this phrase in the final quotation to be the crux of the matter: ‘”all”…embraces the most precious values humankind has come to cherish….’ At the risk of oversimplification, can we agree that ‘the most precious value of humankind’ is love; for yourself, for your neighbor, for your enemy, for all the earth? I posit that this capacity lies within every human being without regard to religious belief or the absence of religious belief, or any variation thereof. My sense is that the author, Jim, and his friend, Tom, understand this and live (love) accordingly. Let’s be like Jim and Tom.“

Sunday Laws: The Great Adventist Obsession
“When I think of the millions of Christians who worship on Sunday – wonderfully loving and caring people, I tend to think of that side of them, rather than the day on which they worship.”
–Joyce Elliott
In Syndicated Story, ADRA Criticized for Executive Compensation
“This is such a load of rubbish. When you look up rankings of the different non profits, ADRA rates as one of the least wasteful! I think this needs to be challenged legally!”
Ages of Desire: Sex & Reproduction
“In the history of Christianity, sex has often been considered the original sin leading to the false worship of virginity, celibacy, and the condemnation of sex for pleasure instead of procreation. Too many Christians easily condemn sexual sin as the worst sin–ignoring the pride, selfishness, boasting, domination, oppression, cruelty, violence, greed—as long as we men can keep our zippers up. Sexual sin, like all sins, harms us, but not because sexual relations between responsible mature committed partners is a great pleasure, the essence of delight. And to deny gender minorities this joy is cruelty not morality.“
–Jack Hoehn
“Oh dear, Jack—you know how to wade into the deep and turbulent waters!”
-Loren Seibold
Melissa Morris Named Executive Secretary of Iowa Missouri Conference
“I noticed the president made it sound very much like a job fit for a woman — it’s just office work, after all: ‘While the role of the Conference president is to work in the field with other Conference leaders, the role of the Conference secretariat is to lead the office and make sure the administrative work of the church is accomplished and moves forward.’ Or maybe I’m too sensitive….“
