Adventist Institute of Technology Earns Landmark Security Certification
23 October 2024 |
“Our goal is not only to provide technological innovation but also to ensure that our employees and users can fully trust in the integrity and protection of their data,” says Samuel Alvea Braga, information security manager of the Adventist Institute of Technology (IATec). This statement to Adventist News Network is regarding the IATec’s attaining the coveted ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, widely considered one of the most prestigious international information security models.
IATec, which began in 2016 and has its headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil, provides systems across the administrative, educational, financial, and managerial purposes of the Adventist church and various institutions. As stated in the original article:
“Systems developed by IATec are present in more than 120 countries and are used by more than two million users. Therefore, achieving this certification goes beyond technical recognition. It is concrete proof that the institution places information security as a priority in its work.”
Attaining an ISO 27001:2022 certification requires multiple layers of planning and processing which can span over months. The steps include but are not limited to establishing a Risk Treatment Plan after performing a formal risk assessment and gap analysis, defining the needs and departments for security, and undergoing a grueling audit of all systems to ensure correct policies and procedures and the existing business process and security measures.
Ultimately, attaining the certification would not have been possible without the complete cooperation and coordination of the entire IATec team. All factions had to operate in full transparency and efficiency to move through the audit necessary for the ISO 2700 certification. To be part of this ranking is an amazing achievement within the IATec and the Adventist ecosystem, guaranteeing high-level information security.
Handling the data and information systems for the Adventist church and its institutions is no small feat, and implies immense responsibility. Attaining the gold standard for security lends a new level of credibility to their commitment to integrity within technology. This accomplishment is just the beginning for IATec, which is working to apply a missional mindset to an innovative field.
