On July 10, 2025, ADRA premiered its documentary Strangers Among You. The event, hosted in the Ferrara Theater in America’s Convention Center, used the 62nd General Conference Session to launch its upcoming tour of the movie. The film focused on numerous families and individuals from Syria, Venezuela, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Thailand.
Their stories marked the experience of displacement due to war, economic collapse, and the exploitation of the vulnerable. The film endeavors to recontextualize brutal political and economic unrest through intimate interviews, reclaiming the narrative through a human lens. Providing a face to those affected by the disputes mentioned was designed to invite a discussion surrounding the speed political unrest can upend a life, changing it forever.
ADRA’s efforts to support those affected were featured, such as the Keep Girls Safe shelter in Thailand, which protects undocumented girls who are natives of Thailand but were never formally registered at birth. Here, young girls who are vulnerable to rampant trafficking due to their undocumented status are kept safe, legally documented, and given an education. A mother and her two teen daughters, forced to flee Ukraine, stayed in a refugee home in Poland.
After the film, Arjay Arellano, director of Strangers Among You, Audrey Andersoon, Vice President, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, and the Vice Presidents of ADRA hosted a Q&A with the audience. The documentary will be touring in the coming months before being released to the public.
