According to a recent news report, on Friday, June 6, a member of the Burlington (New Jersey) Seventh-day Adventist Church was accused of 26 charges of sexual abuse and violence against a minor. One news outlet states:
Shawn Tracey, 44, of Mount Holly, was taken into custody Tuesday following allegations of repeated sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 13. Police and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest Friday, detailing a series of charges that include 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault, 13 counts of debauching the morals of a child, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of showing obscene material to a minor.
Though many outlets describe him as a deacon, the lead pastor of the Burlington Seventh-day Adventist Church denies he was ever an elected official within the local church, explaining that he was merely an active member. Another news outlet stated:
The NJ [New Jersey] Conference of Seventh Day Adventists issued a statement addressing the situation, calling it deeply distressing and emphasizing their commitment to creating a safe environment for children and youth within the church. The statement noted that they are reviewing safety protocols and safeguarding measures, urging prayers and compassion during this challenging time.
