Abraham J. Jules Named New President of the Atlantic Union Conference
12 June 2024 |
Abraham J. Jules was elected as the new president of the Atlantic Union Conference on June 6, taking over from Pierre E. Omeler, who recently became a General Vice President at the General Conference. Jules has held the role of president of the Northeastern Conference since 2021 and has over 36 years of pastoral experience within the region.
Jules was born in Trinidad and is a fourth-generation Adventist who felt the call to ministry from a very early age. He holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from Oakwood University, a Master of Divinity from Andrews University, and a Doctor of Divinity from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Jules and his wife, Dominique, are also the parents of two young adults.
In the Atlantic Union Gleaner, Jules emphasizes compassion and care as essential leadership qualities and believes that, “ultimately, if you’re not compassionate and caring, you shouldn’t be leading.” He intends to rely heavily on his team and on God in his new role saying, “I feel I need God—God’s grace, His wisdom, His strength. I think I sense my need for support. I sense my need for the prayers of those I love and certainly the wisdom of those who have already served in this capacity.”
The Atlantic Union Conference covers six conferences—Bermuda, Greater New York, New York, Northeastern, Northern New England, and Southern New England. The Union currently has 134,701 members, 617 churches, 43 schools, and numerous community ministries. Jules is committed to connecting deeply with the community, stating, “I look forward to meeting you… and growing in Christ together.”
