St. Lucia Church Reels from Devastating Fire

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the St. Lucia Mission Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church burned down. According to one account:
Units from the St. Lucia Fire Service and the St. Lucia Police Service responded quickly and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which spread rapidly through the structure. Footage from inside the gutted building revealed that the fire destroyed everything—pews, platform furniture, and the entire roof—leaving the building in total ruins.
Pastor Roger Stephen, president of the St. Lucia Mission, contacted leadership from the Caribbean Union Conference to inform them of the disaster. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the fire. The church contained a membership of around 100 people, with the building itself consisting of a main sanctuary and restrooms. However, there had been hopes that a children’s division for Sabbath School rooms and a fellowship hall might be constructed. The original structure had been built mainly by volunteers, raising hopes that the structure will be rebuilt in time. The cause of the fire is still unknown; however, the community continues to pray as they navigate their loss.
“In moments like these, we are reminded that the church is not just a structure, but a community of believers united in faith,” said the church pastor. “While we are deeply saddened by the damage, we find solace in knowing that everything is ultimately in God’s hands.”
