Paulo Lopes Becomes New President of ADRA International
20 March 2025 |
Paulo Lopes has just been announced as the new president of Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International, effective April 1, 2025. After the announcement of Michael Kruger’s choice to step away as president, many wondered who would step into the position. According to ADRA’s official statement, Lopes boasts a decades-long history with ADRA, serving both in the field and in global leadership since 1986.
“Most recently serving as the Regional Director of ADRA South America, Lopes brings decades of experience in international humanitarian service, leadership, and community development. His appointment marks a new chapter for ADRA as the organization continues its mission to serve humanity so all may live as God intended.”
After an extensive search process led by ADRA’s International Board of Directors, the board members are confident in Paolo Lopes’ ability to take on the role during this critical time, particularly in light of the federal funding freeze. With 25 years of senior executive leadership experience, Lopes has demonstrated that he is an ideal choice due to his commitment, passion, and leadership in humanitarian outreach.
His innovative leadership has resulted in numerous initiatives both within ADRA’s offices and in the field, including the Emergency Mobile Unit, a psychosocial support app, and a volunteer program that mobilizes thousands of Adventist volunteers. Additionally, Lopes spearheaded the organization’s rebranding in 2017, served as a founding member of ADRA’s Strategy and Global Initiatives Committee, and developed a comprehensive strategic framework for ADRA’s 118 network offices. His transition to this role represents the next step in a well-established career.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to serve as the new President of ADRA International,” said Lopes. “ADRA is more than an organization—it is a movement of compassion, hope, and action. As we look to the future, we will continue to expand our reach, strengthen our partnerships, and advocate for those in need. Together, with our global team and supporters, we will work tirelessly to bring lasting change to the communities we serve.”
