Tennessee Senior Community Settles Lawsuit, Admits Asking Adventists to Resign
22 August 2019 | An assisted living senior community in Tennessee has settled a lawsuit with two Adventist former employees.
According to HRDIVE, the facility admits asking the employees to quit due to their refusal to work on Saturdays.
Garden Plaza of Greenbriar Cove in Ooltewah, operated by Century Park Associates, an affiliate of Life Care Centers of America, agreed to pay $92,586 to settle the U.S. Equal and Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) religious bias lawsuit.
As part of the settlement, the employer will train staff on Title VII’s requirements. In addition, it will report religious discrimination claims and requests for religious accommodations to the EEOC; while allowing the body to monitor the facility’s compliance with these issues.
