AT should have been more diligent about the Gale Crosby story

18 April 2022  | Dear Adventist Today, In this part of the world, Adventist Today has taken a significant hit because of the article describing the firing of Gale Crosby from the Oregon Conference.  The article was unsigned, and gave the distinct impression that the decision by the Oregon Conference was supported by solid evidence and […]

“First” women before Chris & Chanda

4 March 2022  | Dear Editor, In your current issue of Adventist Today Update, in Lindsey Abston Painter’s “Editor’s Notes” entitled “March is Women’s History Month!” you refer to “firsts” regarding Adventist women in senior leadership positions. One is to “Chris Oberg, the first Adventist woman to be lead pastor of a university congregation.” The […]

Thanks for the essay on presumption

24 December 2021  | Dear Editor, Thank you so much for Loren Seibold’s AT article today entitled “Presumption: On Jumping off the Temple Roof.” This article may save many lives, and help already overworked, overwhelmed healthcare workers. I worry daily about anti-vax Adventist relatives of mine. If some should die of Covid, I will wonder, […]

The Fall 2021 Adventist Today magazine was a blessing!

8 December 2021  | Dear Editor, I very much enjoyed the Fall 2021 issue of Adventist Today! Every article contributed to my better understanding of how we should read the Bible. In the lead article, I was especially impressed with Loren’s insistence that those parts of the Bible that seem to show God as vengeful […]

Thanks for your thoughts on The Great Controversy distribution!

6 September 2021  | Dear Editor, Without intending to extend this controversy, I wish to say that I agreed with and appreciated Loren Seibold’s concern about the planned distribution of a billion copies of The Great Controversy (“The Wrong Way to Reach the World,” 27 August 2021). Would it be possible to channel the enthusiasm […]

Thank you, Aunt Sevvy, for addressing polyandry!

17 August 2021  | Dear Adventist Today, Thank you so much for Aunt Sevvy’s column posted on Monday. Our son told us several months ago that he and his wife were now in a polyamorous relationship. We met their new partner and her children and like them very much. We have accepted the situation, though […]

Moore refutes Mora’s characterization of his view of inspiration

31 July 2021  | Dear Adventist Today: I am responding to the article by Daniel A. Mora, “I Do Not Claim to Be a Prophetess” that appeared on a recent Adventist Today web site, which is his response to an article of mine that appeared on an earlier web site titled “A Response to Loren Seibold.” In […]

Thanks for Admiral Ncube’s thoughts on virginity!

16 July 2021  | Admiral Ncube’s thoughts on virginity and young women in Aunt Sevvy’s column were absolutely beautiful. Oh, that it were published worldwide! Our young ladies are precious in the sight of God. Our young men need all the support they can get, too. Our church families should be there for them. I’m […]

Sometimes empowered, sometimes bewildered, always glad

13 July 2021  | Dear Aunt Sevvy, I just want to say that I enjoy your weekly column very much. I am an 83-year-old white-haired gentleman. (I do try to be gentle in all matters). Each week I look forward to your wisdom and candor and relaxed personal approach. Sometimes I feel empowered by your […]

Thank you for Aunt Sevvy!

20 June 2021  | Dear Adventist Today, I really appreciate Adventist Today and especially Aunt Sevvy’s column. When I was growing up (I’m in my 80s now) we weren’t encouraged to question anything about our church or its policies.  Now we’re getting to the place where we realize that individuals are unique, and some may […]

Your cover was ugly, and the paper too expensive

9 June 2021  | To the editor, Re your Spring 2021 issue of Adventist Today: It was interesting reading about the “Hamburg Seers” because I was living in Hamburg at that time and remember the meeting to decide about them. I was young then, and everything seemed a little spooky to me. I had not […]

Scientific Evidence Lacking for Evolution

28 March 2021  | Dear Editor, This is a response to the article by Paul Priest titled, “The Correspondence Between the Creation of the Universe in Science and the Bible,” dated 22 February 2021. There is abundant scientific evidence supporting an old universe and old earth. However, scientific evidence is lacking for the origin of […]

Adventist Tomorrow: Fresh Ideas While Waiting for Jesus, by Jack Hoehn

ADVENTIST TOMORROW by Jack Hoehn has become the best-selling book that Adventist Today has published, selling over 850 copies so far (480+ in the paperback and  370+ in the electronic Kindle version).  It is being read by Adventist College and University students.  It is being read in Canada, in Australia,  in South Africa, in Kenya and in Spain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Who is reading Jack’s book?  Jonathan Butler said it is on his reading list.  Smuts Van Rooyen says he is enjoying it.  Pastors John Hughson and Kenneth Preston have highly recommended it.  Pastor Kevin McGill in Seattle quoted from the book in one of his sermons.   Carmen Lau has read the book.  Jennifer Ogden, Beverly Beem, Linda Nottingham,  Cherri-Ann Farquharson, Gina Olberg have all read it with positive reviews.

Even Clifford Goldstein told Jack he liked the chapter on Intoxicants and got a new idea from the chapter Not a Rib, “but not much else.” (Jack accepts this as good a review from Cliff as he could ever hope for!)

You too don’t have to agree with Jack to read the book.  The ideas discussed in the book are important for all caring Adventists to carefully consider.  It is up to you to decide what you want to do about these issues.  Is there a future for Adventism as well as a past?  And what might that future look like?

Readers who like the book say:   It’s a good read.  I have enjoyed it immensely.  A very valuable piece of work.  Once I started it, I could not put it down.  Very well written.  An unprecedented and transformative rescue of Adventist thought.  A genuine pleasure and a relief.  Added very richly to my heart, soul and mind.

The book is good for individual consideration.  It can be even better as the basis for group discussions — Sabbath School classes, book clubs,  classrooms, workers’ retreats focusing on the challenges of tomorrow.  After you read your copy share it with someone else, or gift them their own copy.   There are 92,000 SDA congregations in the world, most of  them should be having  discussions on important topics like these.
