Editorial: My Calves and the Future of Adventist Journalism
Summer is here, and at Adventist Today, we’ve just wrapped up an intense 10 days of reporting on the General Conference Session in St. Louis—and we hope we did you proud. This summer also brings the slightly terrifying realization that I’ll be attempting a marathon most days from Pisa to Monte Carlo—over 220 miles, starting August 3 (and I’m already trying to remember why I thought this was a good idea). My calves still send me postcards from last year’s London-Paris run, mostly complaining about cobblestones.
Building on that… unique… experience, we’re launching the 2025 Adventist Today Summer Challenge. While I’ll be focused on not tripping for two weeks, the real opportunity is for all of us.
The Challenge isn’t just about my impending blisters. It’s about personal growth and community support. You can participate by choosing your own sponsored goal—a new fitness routine, daily acts of kindness, or tackling that overflowing inbox—and using your effort to fuel something bigger. Donate your sponsored funds at atoday.org/donate. Share your journey with #ATSummerChallenge on social media.
At Adventist Today, we believe honest dialogue is essential for a vibrant church. We work tirelessly to provide independent analysis and news, fostering an environment where new generations contribute meaningfully. This path requires tenacity, resources, and, frankly, a lot of very strong Roma.
So, as I prepare for this long run, I invite you to join this broader movement. If you’re feeling particularly empathetic, you can sponsor my run directly at fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/
Every mile I attempt, and every personal challenge you embrace, directly contributes to Adventist Today’s ability to facilitate crucial discussions and advance honest dialogue within our church. Let’s use this summer to champion both personal development and independent thought.
